Ever had a flat tire?  Most people have experienced at least one, and when you are on the highway it’s an inconvenient hassle.  Now, when you’re in the middle of nowhere on the trail, that hassle multiplies exponentially.  I have always been taught that while off road, you repair your tire instead of using your spare, because once the spare goes on, the day is done, and you head for pavement. Since the last thing I want to do is to have to call a trip early, due to a mechanical failure, I carry a comprehensive tire kit.

Thanksgiving weekend in the SoCal Desert

Hard to believe but it has already been 5 months.  We have no idea how, or where the time went, but that’s what the calendar says.

First Daddy Daughter camping trip

Paige was out of town for a girls weekend and I did not want to sit at home all weekend so we ventured out for our first Daddy Daughter camping trip.

We headed out Friday night after dropping Paige at the airport and made our way to Holcomb Valley just north of Big Bear CA.  We did not have much of a plan for the weekend, just enjoy the outdoors.

Plantains and Sausage

After a long day on the trail during a recent trip with the American Adventurist group, I was off setting up my Outback Swag when the smells of something sweet started to drift through camp.  It was not a familiar scent for me, but it sure smelled great.  My nose ended up leading me to Humberto’s skottle, where he was frying up some Plantains.
